The Metropolitan Transport Corporation runs a mixed fleet of regular and deluxe buses up to distances of 50 km from the city of Chennai, India. Since February 2007, the corporation has been augmenting and replacing its aged fleet with new buses every month. ==Types of buses== The majority of the old buses in the fleet are phased out. These buses usually sport a green livery and have the cheapest fare starting at Rs.3. Most of the new buses that have been inducted are deluxe semi low floored buses with automatic doors. The buses feature comfortable plastic moulded upholstered seating, better legroom, comfortable and brightly lit interiors and better ventilation. The buses are also BS IV emission standard compliant. The fare for the deluxe buses start at Rs.7 and can go up to a maximum of Rs.15 for a 40 km journey. The deluxe buses were initially introduced as blue line, yellow line, orange line and white line services. But this was later classified as just deluxe services.() () As of 11 November 2011, 100 air conditioned Volvo buses have also been added to the fleet, running on around 20 (least 16 permanent and 4 reduced services ) different routes. The fares for these buses start from Rs.15 up to a maximum of Rs.30 (within city limits) and Rs.75 (suburbs and other districts) The total fleet strength of the MTC is 3,637 as of 22 November 2012.
